Podorozhnyk: A Guide through Ukrainian Society After 2022

Podorozhnyk: A Guide through Ukrainian Society After 2022

Available

Podorozhnyk – is a collection of texts from a so-called “sociological audit” of Ukrainian culture from 2023 to 2024. Podorozhnyk follows the author’s previous book “Visnyk Kharkivshchyny” (2022), but with a different geography, topics, and tone of voice. The changes are due to the current military service of the author. Therefore, the texts shelter some black humour, satire, mysticism, despondency, one can find a fairy tale and a lullaby here. This collection of texts establishes a strong connection with the sociological intuition of Gabriel Tarda and Bruno Latour and will be of interest for those who like speculative theories in the social sciences, philosophy, and their adherents in architecture, art, and urban studies.

The texts are accompanied by the illustrations of Maria Vasylenko picturing non-existing road signs. Their dialogue sometimes turns into a dispute or even a scandal. Therefore, these signs can be inaccurate, false, incomplete or empty.
