Flooding

Available

“Flooding” is an art book, a series of texts, and an exhibition about the blurred history of Stanislaviv-Frankivsk, which Nikita Kadan, Alona Karavai, Harri Kraievets, Maryna Sedova, Yarema Malashchuk, and Roman Khimei have been working on for over a year. It is a conversation about historical genocide that takes place against the backdrop of a new genocide. The starting point of the exhibition was Bloody Sunday, when during the Nazi occupation of Stanislaviv, 6,000 to 10,000 thousand Jewish women and men were killed in one day.

ABOUT BOOK

The starting point of the interdisciplinary artistic and research project “Flooding” was chosen as Bloody Sunday during the Nazi occupation of Stanislaviv, when 6,000 to 10,000 thousand Jewish women and men were killed in one day. The eponymous exhibition The Flooding was opened in Ivano-Frankivsk in the spring of 2023 and was co-curated by Nikita Kadan and Alona Karavai. It consisted of new and old site-specific works by Nikita Kadan, Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimei, Harri Kraievets, Taras Prokhasko, and Yuriy Bakai. Nazgul Shukayeva, Yuriy Izdryk, and Vadym Khudoliy contributed to some works. The exhibition was opened as an attempt to reflect on the past genocide of Jewish women and men in Stanislaviv against the backdrop of Russia's current genocidal war against Ukraine. The art book was published during the next phase of the Arab-Israeli war and renewed questions about the past genocide and the current war, which some also call genocidal. It was not easy, it has become even more difficult.
