The texts and the visual materials unify the experiences of losing their homes, trips to the occupied territories, and continuous digging into their own memories and lost landscapes.

This publication was created for the exhibition “Behind a Tree Is the Tree” after the residency organized by the NGO Asortymentna Kimnata “Where the Story Was Interrupted??” curated by Dmytro Chepurnyi and Anton Usanov. The position of the NGO may not coincide with the views of the authors of the texts. Natasha Chychasova (Donetsk–Kyiv) is a curator, researcher, and head of the department of contemporary art at the “Mystetskyi Arsenal” in Kyiv. In her work, she explores strategies for understanding Soviet industrial heritage, the history of enterprises through their representation in post-Soviet museums, and institutional critique. Some of her projects include Finally We Are Here!, Research Room, By Memory, It’s not a Museum – It’s a Plant, and Heart of the Earth. Kateryna Aliinyk (Luhansk–Kyiv) is an artist who works primarily with painting and text. She often explores themes of war and occupation through the lens of nature and non-anthropocentric perspectives. She has participated in exhibitions such as Heart of the Earth, Working Room, What Is Depicted Here?, W Ukraine, A:2402 D:2022, State of Emergence, Piazza Ucraina, and Our Apartments, Houses, Cottages, Gardens, Offices and Yards.TEAM
